Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection

A Lasting Power of Attorney appoints someone to act on your behalf in relation to your property and financial affairs should you become mentally or physically unable to do so yourself.

Lasting Powers of Attorney are not just for the elderly.  Any adult who becomes mentally ill or physically disabled will need someone to look after their affairs.  If no Lasting Power of Attorney is in place, the Court of Protection has to become involved and this can be a lengthy and expensive process.

You can use a Lasting Power of Attorney to appoint a trusted member of your family or friends to run your finances and to look after your property.  You can also appoint someone to make decisions about your health and welfare should you be unable to do so yourself.

We can advise you in detail about the implications of setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney and can lead you through the process of setting one up.

It is a good idea to set up a Lasting Power of Attorney at the same time that you prepare your will.
