Husband receives compensation on behalf of Deceased wife
Daniel Isaac, Partner within the Medical Negligence & Healthcare Law Team successfully assisted our client in obtaining damages on behalf of his wife who died as a result of failing to treat her medical condition.
In the summer of 2005 our client's wife attended her GP with signs suggestive of Cushing's Syndrome. Cushing's Syndrome is a condition in which there are increased steroid levels in the blood and if left untreated can be fatal. The GP referred our client's wife to the Endocrinology Clinic at the local hospital.
The hospital staff believed that our client's wife was suffering with Cushing Syndrome, as she was presenting with "...classical features suggestive of Cushing's Syndrome...".
Despite suspecting that our client's wife was suffering with Cushing's Syndrome, the hospital's clinical staff failed to adequately treat and manage the Cushing's Syndrome from September 2005 to May 2006. This allowed the disease to progress to a point at which surgery to remove the pituitary tumour was much more risky than it ought to have been.
Our client's wife underwent surgery in May 2006 and was discharged in late June 2006. Sadly however our client's wife died in July 2006 following a pulmonary embolism as a consequence of surgery.
"Cushing's Syndrome can be difficult to diagnose and manage as there are a number of causes for the condition. In this case the clinical staff strongly suspected Cushing's Syndrome. They concentrated their efforts on determining the cause of the Cushing's Syndrome and failed to notice that the patient's health was deteriorating. This sadly proved fatal. This was an avoidable death had the clinical staff been more patient focused" said Daniel Isaac, Partner in Pardoes Medical Negligence and Healthcare Law Team who conducted this litigation.
Pardoes were able to obtain an apology from the Trust and agreed an out of Court six figure settlement.Daniel Isaac is a Partner within the Medical Negligence & Healthcare Law Team.
