Mrs Anne Maw, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset has been appointed Patron of Somerset Day, alongside His Grace the Duke of Somerset, the Rt Revd Ruth Worsley, Bishop of Taunton and Michael Eavis CBE.
Somerset Day, which takes place each year on May 11 celebrates and champions all that Somerset has to offer for those who work, live and play within the county, and it marks the date that King Alfred the Great roused the people of Somerset to rise up and defeat the invading Danish Army in the year 878.
Mrs Maw said: “I am really delighted to become a Patron for Somerset Day and I and the Lieutenancy are looking forward to supporting everyone in the Somerset Day endeavours for 2018. I am particularly keen that we use the opportunity to celebrate across the whole of the historic county of Somerset”
Nigel Muers-Raby, head of marketing at Pardoes Solicitors and Chairman of Passion of Somerset, said, “We are incredibly pleased and honoured that the Lord-Lieutenant has accepted our invitation to become a Patron of Somerset Day, and we are very much looking forward to working with Mrs Anne Maw on our even bigger and better plans for Somerset Day 2018.”
