The (not so) secret diaries of a Trainee Solicitor

Christmas party timeChristmas had rolled around quickly as always. I had been a Legal Assistant for nearly 6 months and had just about figured out what I was supposed to be doing.

The problem with the entire month of December is all you want to do is sit in your PJs at home drinking brandy whilst munching through your 12th box of Quality Street. Whereas everyone in the business world invites you out to various parties. I had 8 parties to attend and 2 office parties to go to over 13 working days. I had to say goodbye to the Quality Street and get ready for an absolutely exhausting month, but at least there would be 10 Christmas dinners!

Unfortunately, in the real world Christmas parties don’t involve getting absolutely slaughtered on the company’s dime and doing something ridiculously embarrassing you will regret when you go sober in January. They involve, for the most part, networking whilst eating another Christmas dinner and watching some sort of magician or comedian that is not very good. However, if you put your mind to it, December is a really good time to network and those Quality Street will still be waiting for you come Christmas Eve. Besides who wants to be remembered for being the person who told the boss they loved them…

Stay tuned each Friday for more “The (not so) secret diaries of a Trainee Solicitor”…
