Personal bests at Pardoes Solicitors raise £1,300 for the Dorset County Hospital Charity Appeal

The Dorset County Hospital Charity Cancer Appeal is close to reaching its ambitious target of £1.75 million to fund a new cancer unit, bringing radiotherapy services and local treatment to Dorchester and the West Dorset Community.

Central to this fundraising effort is the unwavering support of local individuals, businesses, charities and organisations, who have taken on inspirational challenges to encourage donations.

Pardoes Associate Solicitor and head of our Bridport Office, Adam Hillier, took on an ambitious cycling ride at this year’s Buckham Fair, cycling the route from Buckham Fair to Poole Hospital and back again – a total of 80 miles.

“I wanted to highlight the distance patients currently have to travel if they receive treatment in Poole,” states Adam, “Cancer touches the lives of so many of us and I know from experience the difference that local treatment will make for patients and the people who care for them. The new unit will considerably reduce travel time, together with the stress, cost and considerable inconvenience associated with it.”

A keen runner yet novice cyclist, Adam completed his challenge in just over seven hours and raised an incredible £1,000 for the appeal. “The support from Buckham Fair visitors, alongside that of colleagues, family and friends kept me going!” said Adam “I was a little saddle sore, but thrilled to have achieved my goal.”

Adam was joined in his fundraising efforts by Pardoes receptionist, Sophie Hutchinson. Sophie also achieved a personal goal, running the Bristol Half Marathon on 3 September, not only completing it in an impressive 1hr and 55minutes but raising a further £300 in donations.

“Our team are not only highly committed to their work and community, they enter into everything with abundant energy and enthusiasm,” states Bhavani Hogarty, Partner at Pardoes and a member of the Buckham Fair organising committee. “We’re very proud that both Adam and Sophie took on their challenges in support of the DCH Charity Cancer Appeal and applaud their success!”

This year’s Buckham Fair not only celebrated its tenth year, but smashed all previous fundraising records, delivering an extraordinary £111,000 for the Dorset County Hospital Charity Cancer Appeal.
