Accidents at Work

Accidents at work can be serious. You may already be aware that your employer is responsible for your health and safety at work. This means they must:

  • Ensure you have appropriate equipment
  • Provide you with suitable training
  • Ensure that your work premises are safe
  • Check that tasks at work are done safely

When this doesn't happen and you are injured as a result, you may be able to claim compensation. However you may feel this could be very stressful and worry that you may lose your job as a result. Rest assured. Your employers are not allowed to dismiss you simply because you have had an accident or because you make a claim.

However it's very important that you work with an expert who can help you navigate the regulations, advise you on your rights and act on your behalf. Your employer is also responsible for the actions of your workmates. So if one of them causes an accident in which you are injured, you can also bring a claim against your employer.

Case study

Mr W of Glastonbury was injured at work when a colleague knocked a pile of pallets onto him with a forklift. The injuries meant that he could no longer work as a builder. We arranged for him to be re-trained so that he could continue to support his family. He received compensation of more than £250,000.
